# Adding a navigation menu in WordPress

> Discover how to easily add a navigation menu to your WordPress site using the drag-and-drop interface.

A navigation menu in a website helps users to move around the important parts of a website. [WordPress](https://hosting.com/hosting/platforms/wordpress-hosting/managed-wordpress-hosting/) allows you to create menus and submenus easily using the simple drag and drop interface. The location of the menus very much depends on the Theme used. This article shows you a step by step guide on creating and adding a navigation bar for [WordPress](https://hosting.com/hosting/platforms/wordpress-hosting/managed-wordpress-hosting/) sites.

## Creating a custom navigation menu on WordPress

To create a new custom navigation menu on WordPress, follow these steps:

1. Log in to your WordPress site with an administrator account.

2. On the **Dashboard** in the left sidebar, click **Appearance**, and then click **Menu.**

3. On the **Edit Menus** tab, enter a name for the menu, and then click the **Create Menu** button:\

4. Click on the box next to the pages, and then click on the **Add to Menu** button:\

5. Drag and drop the pages to rearrange the sequence of the pages under the menu:\

6. The menu locations depend on the Themes. In this example the 2021  theme has five different locations. Select the location for the menu to be displayed and click on the **Save Menu** button:\

7. Tip: To understand the location of the menu, try experimenting with different menu settings.
