# Version control systems

> Git is the supported version control system on hosting.com accounts. Subversion, Mercurial and CVS clients are available for working with repositories hosted elsewhere.

**Git is the supported option**, including repositories hosted on your own account. Subversion, Mercurial and CVS clients are installed so you can work against repositories hosted elsewhere, but we do not host repositories for them.

## Other clients

We do not host repositories for these. The client is available for working with a repository that lives elsewhere, and on an [unmanaged server](/docs/managed-vs-unmanaged-vps) you can install whatever server you like yourself.
