Not on managed hosting, but yes on an unmanaged server.
Why not on managed hosting
Our managed platforms run PHP under Apache and LiteSpeed. ColdFusion needs its own application server, a Java runtime and its own connector into the web server, and that is not something we can add to a managed or shared environment. It is not a ticket we can action.
On an unmanaged server
An unmanaged VPS or dedicated server gives you root, so you install and run whatever stack you like. That includes Adobe ColdFusion, or Lucee, the open-source CFML engine that most new CFML work uses.
A few practical notes:
- Licensing is yours. Adobe ColdFusion is commercial software and you buy your own licence. Lucee is open source.
- Size for Java. ColdFusion and Lucee both run on the JVM and want considerably more memory than a PHP site. Check the engine’s own requirements before choosing a plan.
- It is unsupported by us. We will not install, configure, tune or troubleshoot it, and our support team cannot help with CFML. The server, the operating system and everything on it are yours to run.
If ColdFusion is the only reason you would take an unmanaged server, it is worth checking whether the application could be ported. Most CFML applications that only need templating and database access have a straightforward path to Lucee, which is cheaper to license and easier to find help for than Adobe ColdFusion.
