This article discusses autodiscovery and autoconfiguration DNS records.

About autodiscovery and autoconfiguration records

By default, cPanel automatically creates autodiscovery and autoconfiguration DNS records for your domain. These records enable the Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail clients to automatically discover and configure access to your e-mail accounts.

You can use the DNS Zone Editor in cPanel to view the records (replaceexample.com with your own domain name):

  • autoconfig. example.com (A record)

  • autodiscover. example.com (A record)

  • autodiscover._tcp. _example.com (SRV record)

📘

Note

These records usually do not cause any issues. However, if you do encounter any problems with these records, you can use the Advanced DNS Zone Editor to delete them. To re-create the records, add A records for the autoconfig and autodiscover subdomains. For information about how to re-create the SRV record for your account, please see this article.
