Installing and configuring languages in PrestaShop

PrestaShop includes support for dozens of languages, which makes it easy to internationalize your shop. This article describes how to install a new language for a PrestaShop installation, as well as how to change the default language.

Adding a language

To add a language to PrestaShop, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to PrestaShop as the administrator.

  2. On the top menu bar, click Localization, and then click Translations.

  3. Under Add / Update a language, use the list box to select the language you want to add.

  4. Click Add or update a language. PrestaShop adds the language to your site.

    You can also follow these steps to update a language that is already installed on your site.

  5. To view a list of languages that are currently installed on your site, on the top menu bar click Localization, and then click Languages.

Changing the default shop language

After you install a language, you can make it the new default language for your shop. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to PrestaShop as the administrator.

  2. On the top menu bar, click Localization, and then click Localization.

  3. Under Configuration, in the Default language list box, select the language you want to set as the new default shop language.

    You can also set the local currency, time zone, and other localization settings on this configuration page.

  4. Click Save.
