Backup scheduling and retention
The key to maximizing backup storage space is to maintain an efficient backup and retention schedule customized for your site’s particular requirements. For example, if you have a blog that you update infrequently (once or twice a week), then the following settings are likely sufficient:- Weekly backup frequency.
- Retain a greater number of backups. Depending on the size of your site and files,
- Daily backup frequency.
- Retain a smaller number of backups.

Excluding data from backups
In addition to using an efficient backup schedule, you can exclude unnecessary data from your backups. For example, some things do not need to be backed up, such as caching folders and log files. These items can use very large amounts of disk space, and are not needed to restore a site. For example, on a default hosting.com shared hosting account, the following directories can usually be safely excluded from Dropmysite backups:- access-logs
- cache
- .cagefs
- .cpanel
- tmp
